SEWING PANTS

Stitching pants
This tutorial is long overdue . but my son jus had his birthday and i was busy with that as i had a DIY party.
the pattern making i did before.
This is the instructions to stitch these pyjama pants
This is the way my mother used to stitch most of her clothes before she had a machine which could zigzag or a serger
When u stitch like this the edges which can fray are closed inside and the life of the garment especially children’s is increased

Here is what u do
First stich is always done on the right side with a small seam allowance
Second is done normally on the wrong side

First u stitch the top of the pants on both sides

Then u open this so it looks like pants
Then u stitch from the crotch to the leg hole
Repeat on the other side

Now use free arm sewing and hem the leg holes

Now at the top fold twice enough for elastic width, stitch all around but leave a gap for the elastic to go in

Insert the elastic and stitch two ends together

Now ur pants r done

Have urn kid model it for u

How to sew a kurutha

How to sew a kurutha
In my previous tutorials I have shown how to make the pattern
http://laucreates.blogspot.in/2013/09/making-pattern-for-kurutha.html
And how to do the neck
So this is how to do the stitching of the kurtha
When u start first thing u need to do is get all the pieces together
back piece on left one front piece on the right

Preferably near an iron

An iron can make an armatures work look professional

For started take the two front pieces fold twice n stich the front opening

Next fold twice and do the arm holes. You could try free arm sewing but with children’s clothes the arm holes r too small so I usually do it first

Now take the back piece
With the right side facing in stitch shoulders zig zag or sager the stitches depending on what you have
Your piece looks like this

U can do a stitch around the neck but with such a small garment I don’t usually bother
Now follow the neck tutorial and do the neck
Your piece looks like this

This is where I have gone and done some decoration
This is one of the few times I wished I had those fancy machines which made all those stiches like flowers n swarms n bunny rabbits. Well I don’t know about bunny rabbits I have seen machines which can do flowers n swans hmm buy hey I love my machine
So first I used the stich I used to do button holes started at the end of the right flap of the shirt all around the neck to the end of the other flap
Then I used one of the stiches I use for patchwork just next to it I used a contrasting color just for fun

Now attach the arms
It’s easier if you start in the middle n go
With all the curves in the arm this is what I usually do
Now zigzag

Then do the side stitch n zigzag
Then u can do both the side openings

Carefully start at one edge until u come to where the garment is joins put a horizontal stitch here
Now work ur way down

Do both opening on the sides

Now fold twice n iron the hem n stitch ur kurutha is done

Mark two inch intervals
Do button holes

Open them
Put the buttons

N ur kurutha is done yayyy

Stitching a kurutha neck TUTORIAL

Stitching a kurutha neck
This can be a very useful technique
I used to do front and back separately for my other tops
But if the neck is open at front or back this is the best
First you need to cut a strip of cloth like this. DONT TAKE A STRAIGHT PIECE. cut diagonally

If u have two strips join them like this
put two strips together

stitch as shown
cut off the excess

should make a straight line when opened

Open and iron
Now this is the neck we r trying to do

Now the strip should be longer than the neck

To start take the edge leave half cm n align with the edge fold this half cm down u should b working on the right side of fabric

pin down stitch all around till u come to the end cut until half n inch remains at end fold this under n stich
The ends should look like this
Make little nips all along the inside be careful not to cut the thread

Fold this twice under im sorry its a bad pic oops as shown and stitch along the line of folding

The neck is done now it should be like this

MAKING A PATTERN FOR A KURUTHA

Making a kurutha pattern
My Nooh loves sleeping in his cotton kurutha
I used to have him wear normal pajamas to sleep, although they r comfy in winter he finds them too hot in summer.
So one day I put him in his kurutha when he woke up in the middle of the night feeling itchy n crying.
He has very sensitive skin and he sweats a lot.
I found that he slept much better in his kurutha which was what he actually wore for Eid.
Anyway I thought of making some for him by myself.
It seemed a shame to spent money on something that looked so easy to make not to mention fun.

As I plan to make a few of them I decided to make a pattern.
That way I could easily make as many as I like with little fuss as possible.
Here is him in his kurutha all ready for bed.

The kurutha has a little opening at front which makes it little difficult to get him in to
So I decided mine would be like a shirt.

So to make a pattern I actually found some paper. If you have a kid I’m sure there will be enough paper around the house to make a pattern.
Brown paper is fine. I have even used newspapers at times to make patterns but things which are not printed are better.
So I found this green chart paper.
So above is the kurutha top n bottom which ill show  how to make a pattern at a later date but very soon.

Making pattern for the top

Fold kurutha in half front side in and the sleeves folded in along the stitching line and lay it along the edge.
Use a pencil and draw an outline if u want the kurutha to be looser u can make it so.
I’m making it to be a little looser.
Now
Cut it.

U will have something like this
This is the back

Now to make the front u can use the pattern u just made
Lay this about an inch away from the other edge n cut

Cut the front neck as deep as u like. You can use the old kurutha as a guide or wing it.

Now to cut sleeve, lay the sleeve down as shown, outline it and cut. If u has made your kurutha looser add about that amount to the sleeve too.
Cut this

Pattern for your kurutha top is ready. Label every part.
It should be like this. The bottom part is the pants ill show how to make that at a later date.

here is the first kurutha i made
